So, I should totally be showering right now because I have to be at work in half-an-hour and I live 15 minutes away.

But, I'm not, because it occurred to me just a few minutes ago that I suck as a fan. Seriously! Until three or four minutes ago, I'd never heard the song Saturday by FOB. I'd heard of it, but never heard heard it. I didn't even know there was a video.

Then I stumbled across it in an [livejournal.com profile] icecreamhdaches blog entry and yeah, watched it. And liked it. And it brought to mind the fact that I only discovered FOB like, in October of last year. I only have their new cd, none of their old ones. Same with My Chem (except I haven't even bought their cd yet, just burned it from an illegal download...bad gemmi!). Panic?! I skipped over their newest cd and settled right in with the old one.

All of this, all the music I listen to, etc (except country because i've been on that train for a long ass time) I've only just started listening to within the past four months. And I haven't listened to any of the older stuff, and I should.

So, rec me a song and I will listen to it tonight, even if I have to buy it off itunes. Any Bandom band (or well, any song in general).

Thanks!

technology is a curse and blessing
at once wrapped together and tangoing
in the darkness while waiting for the sun to rise
music softly twirling out of itunes or other apps

ten minutes ago a beep shuddered against my thigh
and i reached into my pocket to get the newest info
the latest message
everything bite sized and compact and have we forgotten
how to use sentences and words and paragraphs
have we forgotten how to read faces and know spaces
when to hug or kiss or stand there awkwardly silent

instead we rely on emoticons and internet shorthand
slang developed in a virtual landscape
virtual world
virtual volunteering when nothing really matters
except for everything that clearly does

i want to know how this came to be
how megapixels and megabites and usb and firewire became the buzzwords for our generation
online petitions that circulate and circulate
its become a skill
recognizing spam and delegating it to the proper subfolder
weve all heard at least one horror story
of someone who believed that the prince of a foreign country
was really going to pay them back their lifes savings
if only they could get to the bank

virtual
virtual
virtual
is anything real anymore
do we send virtual flowers and virtual cards and virtual hugs and virtual kisses
relationships that exist within pixels
and are we alone or lonely or happy and popular
all from the space of our beds
our desks
our living rooms and our kitchens

were more worried about getting children halfway around the world that dont have water or toilets computers so they can compete in a global age
when theyre dying at 5 or 6 or 7 because they walk through filth everyday
while carrying tainted water in their homemade buckets
yes a computer that only costs 300 us dollars is really going to help them
when they see maybe 10 us dollars a week and us that to buy food for their families

we think were helping them become self sufficient
but what were really doing is making them more like us
homogenization of the world
all from the comfort of your living bed kitchen room
